Why Jason Kidd is the Ultimate Mentor & Player-Coach
Many fans are criticizing the Knicks for "getting older" by adding Jason Kidd via free agency. The fact is, though, that Kidd's experience and veteran leadership will balance out the relatively young team quite nicely.
As MSG Network's Alan Hahn notes on "The Knicks Fix" Facebook page, bringing Kidd into the fold not only provides the team with a player-coach type figure, but also provides New York with the offensive coordinator of sorts that many suggest Coach Mike Woodson needs on his staff next season. Kidd is certain to mentor Jeremy Lin (should he return next season) and impact him similarly to the way Gary Payton influenced Kidd himself as a young point guard (as seen in the clip above).
Coach Woodson knows just how smart and savvy Kidd can be firsthand. The pair were involved in one of the most unique technical fouls in NBA history while the point guard was playing in Dallas and Woodson was coaching the Hawks. By running into Woodson as he stood on the court while a contest between the two teams was in play, Kidd drew a technical foul that propelled the game's momentum in the Mavericks' favor.

Great find, i think i saw that when it happened. Its shows exactly the TYPE of mentality we need to learn, but one you can't "teach" without leading by example.
ReplyDeleteSaid it before, aside from his effect on Lin and obv team / D / championship mentality (all the little things)...I cant WAIT to see how he helps transform Shump into an allstar. I think he's exactly the last piece to put him over the top. Great decision maker, great passer, great all around team baller. And solid defender (he still is near 2 steals, thats NOT from athleticism...and 6 A a game). That will fit shumpert perfectly.
I was watching that game. A proven player that thinks while on the court.He'll be a good tutor for Lin and Shump.A guard that knows how to read the defense before it's even set up all the way.That's value for the buck. At 9 million over 3 years is not a lot of money.
